We have this extreme craving for blogging when it comes to national and international observance days.

Today is the National Blogger Day. It was proclaimed 5 years ago in Jakarta, Indonesia on 27 October by the Minister of Communication and Information Technology in his remarks at the first national blogger party, Pesta Blogger 2007

It was a recognition given to bloggers, one day that is celebrated every year by bloggers all over Indonesia in any way they can.

The history of National Blogger Day

In 2160 words Amril Taufiq Gobel a seasoned blogger wrote a detailed account of the Pesta Blogger 2007 , including tips from senior bloggers in his post When the Bloggers Party.

Enda Nasution, an icon for Indonesian blogger community, who chaired the first Pesta Blogger last year posted The History of the National Blogger Day: “The Blogger Day, although not yet a national observance day, is a good way to remind us, bloggers. that we too should have our own day. Whether the day continues to exist and become meaningful will depend on our efforts,” says Enda.

Five years after the party, attended by 500 bloggers from all over the country, Indonesia as reported by SalingSilang currently has 5.5 million blogs.

The blog of Omar Niode Foundation tries to illustrate the vision and missions of the Foundation through a wide range of blog posts. As mentioned in the About page, readers will find in our blog, knowledge and experience enlightening the endless opportunities in the field of agriculture, food and culinary arts.

Our volunteer bloggers cover local and international food events, workshops and seminars, interviews, policies, initiatives, opinions, recipes, books & restaurant reviews and many more.

Tough acts to follow

Bloggers move in close-knit and sometimes exclusive communities. As a new kid on the blog it would be hard to follow the steps of those who have been blogging for years.  Hence we follow two Indonesian kinships that we figure may guide us to fun and ethical blogging:

The F Biters is a guild of Jakarta-based food bloggers who share their daily bites, hawkers and haute cuisine alike, and their passion of writing about their life-changing adventures!

The Indonesian Food Blogger Group  aims at  uniting Indonesian food bloggers who live in Indonesia and reside in many countries of the world and to promote Indonesian cuisines abroad.

In the international arena we are fortunate to have connections with two major pioneers, and have the Omar Niode Foundation logo on their sites:

The International Food Blogger Conference in the United States  initiated the first-ever conference for food bloggers focusing on Food, Writing, and Technology.

Its 2012 meeting featured high quality educational sessions, personal networking opportunities and engaging sessions by industry leading authors, chefs, bloggers and more.

The Food Blogger Connect in Europe  connects food bloggers and food industry folks, helping to create a community that inspires and nurtures creativity, innovation & professionalism. It  is Europe’s first, biggest, & leading food blogger’s conference & forum, bringing together award-winning, star-profile, guest speakers and attracting bloggers from all over Europe and beyond.

BAD is worth it

On this National Blogger Day we would like to end with two emails received from our international readers:

A student from the Goa Institute of Management in India read our post Banana peel is no laughing matter,  asked for more information so that he can start a processing plant in Goa where many banana peels are getting wasted.

A TV reporter from Taiwan  would like to interview our resource person and make a feature about traditional herbal drink, Jamu, as ice cream to enhance health as explained in our post Jamu Ice Cream.

With such response, it is no wonder that we keep blogging even if In the euphoria of celebrating the National Blogger Day we are suffering from BAD, Blog Addiction Disorder, where no blogging means no life.
