Since centuries ago, wok is the most important utensil in Chinese cooking. Using the bowl-shaped pan made from iron ore makes it easy for users to fry, boil, steam, sauté, and grill.

Along with being one of the most versatile cooking utensils in the modern kitchen, according to Wok Woks, the wok is also one of the most resilient cooking instruments in history.

As such it becomes the favorite of restaurants that provide Chinese food and many restaurants use the word “wok” as part of their brand.

I was thrilled to have the opportunity to attend the Grand Opening of Master Wok at Lotte Shopping Avenue (LOVE) in South Jakarta with fellow Indonesian Food Bloggers.

Master Wok is one of the restaurants that serve Chinese food at affordable prices under the auspices of Boga Group known for its concept of comfortable restaurants with delectable and healthy foods.

According to Bernadeth Astrid, its Assistant GM Operation, Master Wok is different compared to other eateries under Boga Group due to its notion of modern fast food, hip, and mainstream, popular and unique.

Boga group, with a tagline “pleasing your senses”, has a vision to be recognized as the best and most respected player in Indonesian food service industry.

Although different in concept, the quality, the delicacy and the variety of Master Wok menu are not inferior compared to those of other restaurants under the Group.

The foods served at Master Wok are always fresh and contain no pork. Visitors can select foods directly at the restaurant’s counter. To make it easier for patrons to make their choices, Master Wok restaurant staff are on hand to provide information and advice about the menu being served.

I opted to have: 1. Honey and Ginger Chicken Pieces of chicken coated with flour and processed with a mixture of honey, ginger, spices and sesame sprinkles. 2. Cap Cay (Mixed Vegetables) Mixed fresh vegetables, mushrooms, snow peas, carrots, cauliflowers, corns, enriched with gravy 3. Chicken Roll Crispy and spicy chicken appetizer processed with rich seasoning. 4. Blackpeper Beef Thinly cut beef, with a mixture of sauce with sweet and salty taste and sliced onion. 5. Fragrant Chicken Pieces of meat wrapped in flour with a sweet, salty, a little spicy and crunchy, one of my favorites 6. Egg Fried Rice Spicy fried rice with egg mixture, carrots, onions and peas.

Master Wok boasts tasty and healthy meals, offering them through different packages by combining rice or either noodle/vermicelli with either beef/poultry/seafood and vegetables.

Since its launching on July 1, 2013 Master Wok has two outlets, one in South Jakarta and one in North Jakarta.

To answer my curiosity, Wok Woks explained the difference between cooking with a wok and cooking with other methods is in the preparation and cooking in two different steps. Food being cooked on a wok must be prepared before hand because the chef usually does not have enough time to chop and toss in one ingredient at a time. Meals prepared in a wok are cooked over high heat and can be ready in a matter of minutes.
