Tequila was first produced in the 16th century near the location of the city of Tequila, which was not officially established until 1666. The Aztec people had previously made a fermented beverage from the agave plant, which they called octli – later called pulque – long before the Spanish arrived in 1521. When the Spanish conquistadors ran out of their own brandy, they began to distill agave to produce one of North America’s first indigenous distilled spirits.
To celebrate the Tequila drink, Potato Head Garage, a classic steak house in Jalan Jenderal Sudirman Kav 52-53 Jakarta prepared a special week dedicated to Tequila, sponsored by one of the finest quality tequila brand, Don Julio.
The style of tequila that is popular today was first mass-produced in the early 19th century in Guadalajara, Mexico.
A special Tequila evening was held on Thursday September 5th at Potato Head Garage, hosted by its mixologist Dre Masso.
Among the special guests for the evening were the Mexican Ambassador to Indonesia Ms. Melba Pria
and Tomas Estes, world famous tequila expert and restaurateur Tomas Estes is one of the most influential people in the Tequila industry outside of the distillers themselves.
Tomas is one of two Tequila Ambassadors for the Mexican Government worldwide. A few of his accolades include being recognized twice by the Mexican national tequila chamber with the title of “Ambassador to Europe for Tequila” and received a Life Time Achievement award from “Theme” magazine for his work with Tequila in the hospitality industry.
Tomas has a true love of Tequila that shines through all he does. He is often found as a guest speaker talking about the taste and process of hand crafted Tequilas to educational groups and connoisseurs.
Potato Head Garage has created a unique 5 course-pairing menu to compliment Don Julio tequila, influenced by some of the Garage menu favorites.
